This morning on Bill Bennett’s radio program, Morning in America
(http://www.bennettmornings.com), a caller relayed how his son, a
soldier in Iraq, wondered if this war was not his generation’s Vietnam?
The dad encouraged him and told him emphatically No, this war is not
Vietnam. But in the quiet of his heart, he too, is beginning to wonder.
Bennett gave him this encouragement: “He’ll shoulder his weapon, you shoulder yours”
Wars have more than one front. I can’t think of a single war in
America’s history lost by our military. Not even Vietnam. THEY WON the
battle of SE Asia. WE, here at home, lost Vietnam.
The US military won it, and we, the media, the politicians, Hollywood and academia snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
We have our weapons to shoulder. Our words, our support, our encouragement. We can win this war if we don’t lose hope.
